Worry is a Thief

Worry is a thief.Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7Over and over again in scripture, Jesus invites us to abundant life and freedom. He tries to talk us out of worrying and into trusting. Yet, like children trying to do it "all by myself", we hang on to our anxiety and fear. He watches us as we worry and fret like it's our only option. Gently he comes to us again in his Word or through a friend reminding us of his love and power. He whispers, "I've got his. Relax."God obviously knew we would need lots of reminders and lessons about worry. They're sprinkled all throughout his Word; He's so patient with us.When we are in a state of worry, we are missing out on that love he has for us. Worry robs us of his presence. Remember that the thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10), and don't you know that worry is one of his go-to weapons.  If, for one minute, we begin to doubt God's goodness, his personal involvement, his lavish love for us, then the enemy has won.Either God is all-knowing or He's not. Either God is all-powerful or he's not. Either God loves you or he doesn't. Either God has a plan or we need to panic. It's as simple as reminding ourselves of the truth we know. Our situation may be confusing or frightening. Life may seem impossible and chaotic. We may not be able to see the outcome, but we know that we are loved by the God of the universe who is never caught off guard, who always works things together for our good.Worry is a thief.
