Laugh or You Will Cry

Sometimes you just have to laugh. On those days when you wake up and the dog got sick on the carpet during the night, when you have to send a kid to school with no underwear, when you wear two different shoes to work, when your child scores on the wrong goal, and especially when it all happens in one day!

My grandmother and I used to play a board game together called "Aggravation." Maybe you know it. Moving marbles around a board from "base" to "home." Sending your opponent back to their base...being aggravated. One day, I beat Granny 13 games in a row. She wasn't aggravated. She laughed. In fact, she laughed so hard that she peed in her pants! When she passed away, I asked for her aggravation board. We all need reminders that life's little aggravations are just that, little.  It's time to laugh. (Now, that I've had children, I also get the peeing in your pants thing too!)

Perspective is an amazing thing. It can change our complaints to praises. We complain about the dirty clothes on the floor, but then tragedy strikes and we are thankful for those lazy little kids that melt our hearts. We just don't think we can live with our husband's annoying habits one more day until a friend calls to share that her husband had an affair. I struggle with letting the little things become big things. Do you? I don't want to let the mole hills ruin my day today.

Let's focus on relationships today. Let's ask God to give us his eyes, his heart for our family and the world around us. Let's ask our Creator this question, "What is really important today?"

Granny left a legacy of laughter. My mother has always been one who could laugh at herself and at those crazy, little disasters in life. Thanks Mom. I truly believe that being truly, deeply thankful is the source. Are we thankful for our crazy lives today? In our gratitude we can laugh when we forget to put the lid on the blender. I hope you enjoy your life today. Take some time to laugh this weekend. Leave a comment below about what's important to you today.

A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. Proverbs 17:22

...give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:18
