All You Can Do is All You Can Do

When you've done all you can do, then you just have to stop and breathe and be okay with it.Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, 24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Colossians 3:23-24Whatever you do, whether it's trying to cook healthy food for picky children or do your job for a picky boss, it's really all for Jesus. If you are a wife trying to be that quiet example of love to an unbelieving husband or a teenager struggling to write an essay, it's all for Jesus. Whatever you do, the work that God has placed in front of you, under your roof, or at your office, it can be how you worship. There are times when you have done your best and it's still not good enough for someone. Maybe you have poured your heart and prayers into loving someone who continues to reject your efforts. All you can do is all you can do. I have consoled a daughter who didn't make the grade despite nights of studying and sleep deprivation. I reminded her that I certainly don't expect more from her. When God has asked you to a task or relationship, a job or a calling, he is not expecting perfection. He just wants you. He wants your whole heart and your best efforts, and when you've done all you can do, he invites you to come to him and rest. You can rest as you trust him with whatever seems unfinished to you.  He will fill in all of the gaps that need filling, not according to your plan, but according to his.Sweet friend, when we step out in obedience, when we love someone with the love of Christ, when we work hard and do what is asked, then we must let go and trust God. He is our audience of one and the only one we seek to please.
