Fight Like a Ninja!

Just Being Me!

I can't seem to get away from the whole "freedom" thing. It's just that when you find a good thing, you want to share it. Don't get me wrong, I do not have some magic freedom juice; I fight to keep my freedom. Daily. Like a ninja. Sometimes moment by moment. I even have a battle song and verses to remind my feeble mind of the truth. Shoot. I might make a flag to wave!

Do you know what feels good? Freedom from comparison. Definitely worth the fight. Have you ever done this? You walk into a room of women, and in about 10 seconds, you know where you fall in the scale of weight, hair, and fashion. We do it almost automatically because of our need for approval and self worth. "Is there someone heavier than I am?" "Is there someone who needs their roots done worse than I do?" We just want to feel good about ourselves. You know, as well as I do, that there is always someone thinner with better hair. Comparison only leads to defeat. We've all been there.

Comparison goes deep. If it were only about hair! With enough money, we can fix that. Right? We can even change our noses and add some pout to our thin lips, with the help of a good surgeon. When we begin to compare our gifts, our personalities, our relationships, and our callings, we find ourselves in an even deeper place of emptiness and frustration. It's apples and oranges. We didn't roll off an assembly line. Each of us girls is a uniquely created work of art that can supernaturally reflect our artist's face to the world around us. One of the greatest joys we can experience is knowing who we are. And who we are not. I was reminded recently to never refer to myself as "just a mom." Should we ever use that word when speaking of people? Are any of us "just" a ______? Value is based on what someone is willing to pay, right?  God's sacrifice for us declares that we are worth way more than "just".

On our own, we are a mess; but we are not on our own. We have God's fingerprints on us from when he carefully, purposefully, and joyfully created us. I imagine this potter sitting at the wheel, spinning and shaping gifts and calling out of the clay. He chooses paint colors so carefully, and then brushes personality onto his new creation. When the potter is finished, he holds it up to look, not for flaws, but just to see the beauty of his work. He whispers with excitement to each piece he creates, "you are a pitcher", "you are a cup", "you are a vase", "you are a bowl"...Then, if you are a believer, he filled you with his Spirit, so that his purpose for you can be completed. NOT someone else's purpose. Yours. It's apples and oranges.

Do you know who you are? I don't know if you're a cup or a bowl, but I know that you are loved, accepted, worthy, and secure. I know that Jesus breathed life into you so that you can bring his life to the world around you in ways that no one else can. Once you know who you are, fight for freedom from comparison. Celebrate God's design. See the beauty in other women as you find freedom to see the beauty of Christ in you!

Here's my fight song! Free by Dara Maclean

There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in men. 1 Corinthians 12:4-6

I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful. I know that full well. Psalm 139:14

Celebrating with a new friend! Love what God has created her to be!!!
