The Pain of Change- comfort is worth sacrificing for future healing

Real Change takes time

So, 21 Days to Good to Me? How's it going? I hope you are beginning to see the benefits of giving yourself a little TLC. We are answering the question, "If I don't take care of myself, who will?"  God is teaching me that as my life belongs to Him, it is my responsibility to be a good manager of myself. I'm not there yet, but I feel myself changing. Real change takes time.God gave me such a beautifully simple illustration of this just yesterday. My adopted son has knock knees. His condition was not noticeable when he was smaller, but as he has grown it has worsened. What we thought might require therapy and  some orthotics would actually respond better with surgery. Because our son is still growing, the surgeon was able to attach tethers with screws to either side of his growth plates that will guide his legs as they grow. Within a year, Sazo's legs should be straight. After a painful surgery and some rest, Sazo is up and moving. His legs still look the same. His knees are still knocked, because the real change takes time. The surgeon did his part by offering us a solution, hope to a condition that was causing Sazo pain and discomfort. Those little tethers are the agent of change. Small but powerful.

Sacrifice a little now for healing later

Each of the Big 5 that we have committed to in this 21 day journey are agents of change. God has offered us an opportunity to set some things straight, to be free of a life that was becoming painful and uncomfortable. He has done his part. Like surgery, there is necessary pain. (Saying no to comfort foods and late night Netflix binges) As time goes on, with the Big 5 in place, we will experience real change.Friend, say yes to change. Say yes to something better than just surviving. If you say yes to taking care of yourself, good things are ahead. If it helps, remember that you are not alone in this! We can remind each other that a sacrifice of comfort now brings days of healing later.
