Mondays Aren't So Bad

I really do love new beginnings. A new day. New week. New year. I get a little excited when I turn the page on the big family calendar to a fresh, clean, unmarked month.

Weird? Maybe. It is the whole possibility of change, the thought of a fresh start that fans embers into flames in me. Embers of last week's fire that were covered in ash and beginning to cool.

There is energy that comes with starting over, erasing the mess I made of yesterday or last week, and beginning again.

When I hear God saying in his word that he washes us white like snow, that he blots out our transgressions, that he covers our sins, I get that same feeling. Hope is fanned into a flame in me. God's mercy and grace breathe on what is covered in ash, what has grown cold.

It's morning. A new day. It's Monday. A new week. I need fresh and clean. Just like God chooses not to remember our sins, I am choosing not to dwell on the mistakes of last week, all the things that did not come together quite right, and the things that completely fell apart.

Last week is gone.

Today we step into a new day, a new week. Let's do it in the hope of Christ.

As I look into the new week, I have decided to focus on making one positive change. I want to develop a habit, but not obsess with my imperfection as I do. Will you be my encouragement, my accountability? Will you remind me that if I mess up, I am loved by the God of fresh starts, clean slates, and white snow?

I will do the same for you. What positive change is waiting for you?

Mine is ridiculously simple. Drinking water. Since I began working full time, I'm so focused on my job, my water bottle sits on my desk untouched all day. Not good.

Now that I am not freaking out everyday about all the new things at work, I want to focus on emptying that water bottle. Twice.

So, here we go. One simple thing for the week. Are there bigger fish to fry in my life. Absolutely. I'm starting small. Wanna start with me?

Isaiah 1:18

“Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the  Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be  as  white  as  snow; though they are red  as crimson, they shall be like wool.
