Give Yourself a Gift!
Last Christmas, my oldest wanted a certain pair of boots. The day I bought the boots, the store was having one of those BOGO sales. If I bought one pair of shoes, a second would be half price. I had been wanting a cute pair of running shoes there, but I didn't actually need them. Merry Christmas to me! I bought the cute kicks and hid them in my closet until after Christmas.
Mom guilt.
Of course I felt guilty for buying the shoes for myself. That's what moms do. Most of us take very poor care of ourselves, and then when we do, we heap guilt on ourselves.
We're messed up, aren't we?!
This Christmas, I am giving myself gifts. Yesindeedy. Wanna see my list?
1. Blinders. So I can focus on Christmas, not my lack of decorations, or the gifts I could't buy for my kids, or the cards I didn't mail.
2. Glue. So I can glue my bottom to the carpet and play games with my kids without getting up to chase a distraction. Uno!
3. Lip balm. I plan to do some extra smooching with Hot Pastor.
4. A tatto. The word "free" on my forehead to remind me that I am already loved, accepted, worthy, and secure. No pinterest Christmas required. I am free from lists of expectations. I am enough.
Nice list, huh? Have you thought about what you want to give yourself for Christmas? You know where all good gifts come from, right? Our sweet Father in heaven. He is the one that whispered these gifts to my heart.
What is it God wants for you this Christmas? As much as we want to give gifts to our kids, he has blessings in store for us. Whatever it is that he wants for you, take it, unwrap it, and enjoy.
